Sofía Barbé is a Uruguayan (b. 2000), London-based artist. Rooted in spontaneity and intuition, her practice draws from an inner landscape to create imagined universes that move between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. Working primarily with mixed media techniques and needle felting, she explores play as a method of emotional inquiry and connection. Within these universes, the creatures she creates function as emotional vessels that facilitate dialogue with the inner self.
Sofía holds an MA in Textiles from the Royal College of Art, London, and a BA in Fashion Design from ORT University, Uruguay. She has exhibited across the UK, including at Make Southwest, Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft, New Brewery Arts, and Platform Gallery. Her work has been recognised internationally, including being a finalist for the NYTM Dorothy Waxman International Textile Prize and receiving the Newby Trust Craft Excellence Award at Cockpit Studios.
